We have been ordering take out from Tum Rup Thai all Summer. This last round was absolutely stellar. When I fist saw their menu, I was disappointed because there was no peanut curry on the menu. So…we had to experiment.
I there are 2 things this restaurant needs to change.
- The bartender who you pay and get your food, needs to mellow out. I have had several negative experiences with him. Let’s just say he can be bad for their brand.
- They need to change their web site. The page title of their home page displays the wrong phone number. The guy who lives in south Minneapolis somewhere who has this number would really appreciate it if they made this correction. It is bad enough that his voicemail message redirects restaurant callers. His phone must ring constantly.
On to the food…
My current favorite dish at Tum Rup Thai is the Noodles with Basil. It is a beautifully simple dish. I order mine with chicken, I am sure shrimp would be good as well. The noodles are cooked in a sweet soy sauce,. Vegetables are fresh and crisp. We also had the Sweet Green Curry. I really like this dish. A nicely balanced tangy curry sauce. If you like your food hot this would be wonderful at 3 of 5 stars for heat level.
I have also had the Pad Thai and the Vegetarian Delight both were good. I prefer the Pad Thai. Has a nice citrus overtone. They do a good job on spring rolls. I think I would be more willing to experiment if they had English translations for more of their menu items. Like how do you say “Pad Nam Prig Sriracha”? Without being able to point to it on the menu it can be difficult.
The menu features some nice Fish options that include Red Snapper, Trout and Tilapia. I will definitely try one when I eat at the restaurant. Something I have not done yet.
This is some of the best Thai food I have had in Minneapolis.
My favorite Thai restaurant ever is Lana Thai in Amsterdam (near Central Station)

Recently made another take out order from Tum Rup Thai. This time was not nearly as good as the last time. I ordered the same Basil Noodle Dish with chicken and the chicken was very dry and chewy like it had been pre-cooked well in advance.
What was interesting was that the Green Curry (also with chicken) was perfect.
